How to Make a Baby Shower Corsage for an Adopted Mom

Making a baby shower corsage for an adoptive mother closely resembles making a corsage for a birth mother, but you need to keep in mind the age of the baby being adopted. In the case of international adoptions, and many domestic adoptions, the baby may be more of a toddler than an infant, and you should plan the shower details accordingly. Consult a size chart to estimate the baby's sock size to purchase socks to use for an easy baby shower corsage that can be taken apart by the mother and put to practical use after the shower. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 5-inch diameter fabric circle or small bib if baby is under 6 months (corsage base)
  • 3 pairs of infant/toddler socks
  • Safety pins

Instructions

    • 1

Place the 5-inch diameter fabric circle (or baby bib) corsage base onto a flat surface. Turn the six baby socks inside out and spread on the table.

    • 2

Grasp the toe of one baby sock and begin to roll it toward the sock's cuff. Stop rolling 1 to 2 inches before you reach the cuff.

    • 3

Pull the cuff over the rolled part of the sock so the cuff edge extends approximately 1 inch around the inner rolled part to form a "rosebud." Do this for all six baby socks.

    • 4

Arrange the six rolled "rosebuds"/socks around the 5-inch fabric base/baby bib corsage base, leaving a "hole" in the center. Pin with a safety pin through the back side of the corsage base and through the bottom of the "rosebud." Do this for all six baby socks.

    • 5

Loop approximately 4 inches of satin ribbon through a small toy or two pacifier handles and hold the ribbon against the center of the corsage base. Use a safety pin to pin through the back side of the corsage base and through the satin ribbon to hold the small toy or pacifiers to the corsage base.

    • 6

Use safety pins to pin the corsage base to the shoulder of the adoptive mother's clothing.

Tips & Warnings

  • Lace and satin bows can be glued around the fabric corsage base with a glue gun and glue sticks if a fancier base is desired. Additional little items, such as teething rings or baby spoons, can be tied with satin ribbon and pinned to the corsage base.
