How to Get Rid of Glare in Adobe Photoshop Elements 6

For many, one of the most enjoyable things in life is capturing precious memories of family and friends with a camera. But this is often spoiled by bad lighting, or by angles that add a glare or lens flare to the image. You might have thought that only a professional could fix something like this. But using Photoshop Elements 6 you can quickly repair the problem yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Load your photo onto your computer, either by transferring it from your digital camera via the USB cord or by scanning it in (if it is printed).

    • 2

Open Photoshop Elements 6. Select "File" and click "Open." In the dialog box browse to the image and open it.

    • 3

Select the "Polygonal" selection tool from the toolbar. Go to the options at the top and change the "Feather" to 15-20px. Now draw a selection around some of the glare.

    • 4

Select "Image," then "Adjustments" and click "Levels." In the dialog box that opens go to "Input Levels" and drag the black slider to the right until most of the glare is gone. You don't want to go too far with this, or you will get something like a negative.

    • 5

Repeat steps 3-4 for each of the glares in the photograph. If there is still some trace of the glare, move on to step 6.

    • 6

Select the "Clone Stamp" tool from the toolbar. Hold down the "Alt" key on your keyboard and click on an area near (but not in) the area you want to repair to give the "Clone Tool" a reference point. Now use the tool to carefully draw over the area. You may want to reselect the reference point as you work.

Repeat steps 3-6 for any other glare in your photo. Select "File" and click "Save." In the dialog box that opens name the file and save it as a high resolution JPEG.
