The floppy disk is a storage container that will not die. The need to retrieve old files archived on floppy disks along with the absence of built-in floppy disk drives have created a need for external drives. USB floppy disk drives are plug-and-play devices that are compatible with Windows 7 without the need of a special driver disk.

Power up your computer and allow Windows to load completely.

Insert the floppy disk drive's USB connector into the available USB port on your computer. Windows 7 will detect the floppy disk drive and install the drivers automatically. A message will appear in the notification area to inform you that Windows is installing drivers for your device and will later tell you when those drivers have correctly installed.

Insert the floppy disk into the external floppy disk drive. Windows 7 will then present you with some choices and ask you what you wish to do with the floppy disk. Make your choice and enjoy your external floppy drive.
