1
Complete the employee evaluations on a day when you are in a positive frame of mind. Employee evaluations should never be done when you are upset or angry.
Create a written plan for yourself If you are having issues with the employee you are evaluating, then seek the mentoring of your supervisor and get her professional input about the employee's strengths and weaknesses.

Ask to meet with the employee in a quiet environment. Start the meeting by stating something positive about him. Allow enough time to discuss the evaluation in detail and for the employee to ask questions. All employees like to feel valued, so if the employee needs time to process his evaluation, extend that courtesy.
Verbalize the company's goals and values and convey that to the employee. Tell him that the need for improvement is so that the entire company can be aligned with the company goals. Tell your employee that you would like to see him prosper in certain areas. Never come off like you are attacking the employee and the way he does things. According to the website "The Healthcare Group," employees need time to absorb the evaluation and process their new expectations. Be upfront and honest with him so that he leaves the meeting with no stone unturned.

Verbalize your support when actually handing the employee her evaluation. You are telling another person what areas they need to improve upon and this can be a very personal and uncomfortable situation. While sitting in front of your employee, verbalize the positive aspects of the evaluation and how many things she does well. Let the employee know that your door is always open should she have any questions in regard to the evaluation.
