Instructions

  1. Making Fabric Boxes

    • 1

Measure the box and the lid using measuring tape. Record the measurements. You will need the measurements when you are cutting the fabric for the box.

    • 2

Cut the fabric with a rotary cutter or scissors based on the measurements you took earlier. You will be using just two pieces of fabric for the box: one for the lid and one for the box itself (body). A rotary cutter makes cutting fabric easier.

You may wish to cut squares from the corners of the fabric so that there will not be excess at the corners of the box and/or lid when you fold it. If you choose to do this, make sure you follow your measurements closely. You want enough fabric to cover each side of the box, with no gaps.

    • 3

Spray the adhesive on the fabric. Make sure your windows are open when you do this, as the fumes from the spray can be dangerous to inhale. For successful application follow the instructions on the can.

    • 4

Apply the fabric to the box carefully. Place the box in the center of the fabric (with the bottom touching the side to which you applied the adhesive). Cover each side of the box with the rest of the fabric. The spray adhesive will bond instantly. Apply the remaining fabric to the lid. Smooth out the sides and the top of the lid so the fabric lies flat.

    • 5

Let your creation dry completely for two to three minutes.

    Making Fabric Books

    • 6

Measure the book using a measuring tape. You will need to measure the front and back covers and the spine. Record the measurements.

    • 7

Cut the fabric based on your measurements. Use a rotary cutter or a pair of scissors to cut the fabric. You will be using one piece of fabric for the book.

    • 8

Spray the adhesive on the fabric. When using spray adhesive remember to use it in a well ventilated area.

    • 9

Place the spine of the book on the area of fabric you have designated for the spine. Smooth out any bumps. Gently lift the other pieces of fabric to cover the front and back covers of the book.

    • 10

Let the book dry for two to three minutes.
