How to Move Wallpaper for a PC

Each new version of Windows contains several wallpaper files, which are generally not carried over from the previous version.       Click the Start button, then click "My Computer" in Windows XP or "Computer" in Windows Vista and 7.

      Double click "C:," "Windows" and "Web." You will find a folder called "Wallpaper." This folder contains all of the wallpaper files included with Windows.

      Right click on the "Wallpaper" folder and click "Copy."

      Right click on your desktop, and click "Paste." The "Wallpaper" folder will be copied to your desktop. Move it to an external hard drive or other removable storage device to bring the files to another computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not forget to move your Pictures folder if you are migrating to a new computer or new version of Windows. This folder may include other photos that you have stored on your computer, but not used as wallpaper images. Click the Start button in Windows Vista and 7, then click the folder with your Windows user name. The "Pictures" folder is located in the window that appears. In Windows XP, click the Start button, then click "My Pictures."
