How to Connect an iPod to an MP3 Jack in a Car

One of the best ways to pass the time on a long road trip is by listening to some of your favorite tunes. The iPod has made it much easier to bring your music with you without taking up a ton of space in your car, and it's easy to connect your iPod directly to many new car stereos.

  • iPod
  • Car stereo with an auxiliary in jack
  • 3.5-millimeter audio cable

      Insert one end of the audio cable into the "auxiliary in" jack on the front of the car stereo. This looks similar to the headphone jack on your iPod.

      Insert the other end of the audio cable into the headphone jack on your iPod.

      Press the source or mode button,depending on your car stereo model, until "AUX," "Audio In" or something similar appears on the display screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use your iPod to control the music playing over your car speakers just as you would if you were listening to it with headphones.

  • Connecting your iPod to your car stereo with an audio cable does not charge your iPod. To keep your iPod battery from dying, connect it to a car charger.
