How to Knot Bracelets
Knotted bracelets are popular among children and teenagers and often are given as gifts symbolizing friendship. There are many different styles of knotting--some knotted bracelets may include the use of beads, while others are made with multiple colors or different thicknesses. You can learn how to make a simple knotted bracelet, however, and then experiment with the process to make more elaborate bracelets.

1
Cut four pieces of thread. They should be the same length. The length will depend on how long you want the bracelet to be--consider the wrist size of the person who will be wearing it.
-
2
Gather the threads together and make a knot at the top of the strands. The knot should be about an inch from the top of the strands. Use strong tape to attach the frayed ends above the knot to a table. Smooth out the strands that extend below the knot. From the left, you have thread A, thread B, thread C and thread D.

3
Take thread A and loop it under and then over thread B. Pull thread A through the loop you made with thread B, holding thread B taut the entire time. Pull thread A until you have a knot at the top of thread B. Repeat this step to make a second knot. Take thread A and repeat this process with thread C and thread D, in that order. When you finish, the threads should be in this order, from the left: thread B, thread C, thread D and thread A.

4
Take thread B and repeat step 3, always working from left to right. When you finish, the threads should be in this order: from the left, thread C, thread D, thread A and thread B.
-
5
Take thread C and repeat step 3. When you finish, the threads should be in this order: from the left, thread D, thread A, thread B and thread C.
-
6
Take thread D and repeat step 3. When you finish, the threads should back to their original order: from the left, thread A, thread B, thread C and thread D.
-
7
Repeat the pattern from steps 3 through 6 until your bracelet reaches the desired length.
-
8
Tie off the threads in one knot when you are finished. Knot the two ends of the bracelet together.

Tips & Warnings
Use four different colors--this will make it easier for you to see the pattern as it forms.
Use more pieces of thread to make a thicker bracelet.
Keep the other two threads out of the way when you are making each knot.
Stretch out the threads to keep them from getting tangled if you have to stop working on the bracelet before it is finished.
