How to Prevent Chafing During Exercise
Chafing often occurs on the inner thigh, groin area, armpits or nipples as a result of body parts rubbing together or friction from clothes or equipment. With a little preparation, you can prevent chafing and finish your activity pain-free.

1
Select clothing that fits well. Shorts or jog bras that are too tight or too loose will create friction and rubbing - resulting in chafing.
-
2
Choose the right type of material for the activity. CoolMax, Supplex, Lycra and Spandex are good choices.
-
3
Check the seams. Seams with rough edges often cause irritation.
-
4
Slather on petroleum jelly or BodyGlide, a nonpetroleum alternative. If you're prone to chafing, use it before you start your activity; otherwise, carry it along and use as needed.
-
5
Increase the distances or times of your activity gradually.
-
6
Consider wearing Spandex shorts underneath running shorts to prevent inner thighs from rubbing together.
-
7
Choose padded bike shorts and a comfortable bike seat.
-
8
Don't buy new clothing for the day of a race or long activity. Test the outfit beforehand.
-
9
Take a spare set of clothes if possible.

I use a spray lubricant called Trislide. I have always suffered from chafing and have tried everything out there. Trislide works best because it sprays on in a thin layer and is mess-free. I buy it online but I think many sports stores carry it as well. -

I wear bike shorts under my trackies or shorts when exercising to prevent chafing between my legs. It works great. If I do get chafing from not wearing bike shorts I apply Bepanthem or Lanolin or Vaseline (which isn't as good as the previous two which are used for sore mothers nursing nipples). Try not to let chafing deter you from exercise! Hopefully one day you will no longer need the bike shorts or chafing remedies! -

Baby powder also works great between the thighs. Apply it to underwear, and it works great for several hours. It also works to relieve, if you are already sore. -

As a chronic sufferer of chafing between the thighs, I can strongly relate with people who are completely distressed from a thigh rash. Occasionally, I used to develop scarring. My first error was looking to creams to solve the problem. When my dad told me that a chemist recommended Daktarin anti-fungal POWDER instead when he had the condition, he claimed it helped instantly...I had exactly the same results! Even after developing a rash, Daktarin powder felt like a super talc powder, removing the stinging feeling. It works marvellously well as a thigh rash preventative too. However, just in case there are unpublished side-effects about prolonged use of the powder, you should contact the makers of Daktarin. (Before I posted I checked the British site for Daktarin Powder but they only gave warnings for pregnant women and the use of the product for up to 10 days. What happens to you after 10 days is the question). -

Apply Gold Bond powder (yellow or green bottle) liberally. The powder prevents friction and keeps you feeling dry and fresh.
