Inform an adult. Don't suffer from bullying in silence. Tell a trusted adult so that he can help you. A lot of times, kids avoid telling adults because they don't want to look like a tattletale. In cases of bullying, it is important to tell someone; bullying can sometimes lead to violence if it isn't dealt with.

Travel in groups. Many bullies will only pick on people when they are alone. Try to walk home from school with classmates or hang out with a group at lunch or recess. There is safety in numbers.

Speak up. Don't be afraid to tell the bully to stop. If you feel that an individual will really hurt you, your best bet is to just walk away. But more often than not, bullies are just full of hot air. If someone keeps yelling mean things at you, tell them to stop. You would be surprised how often that works.

Ignore online bullies. People do lots of things online nowadays, including bullying. If someone is bullying you online through IM or on a site like MySpace or Facebook, don't respond to their bullying. Now there are actually laws against this kind of online bullying. If online bullying continues to be a problem, keep records of comments or conversations. Print them out and have your parents go with you or take the printouts to the principal at school. Most schools will deal with bullying that occurs between students, even if it doesn't happen during school hours.

Join a club. Don't let bullying get you down. Do something fun and surround yourself with nice people who want to be your friend, not pick on you. Find people at school who are interested in the same things as you and stick with them. Select a club or extracurricular activity to join. Once you start to focus on the nice people, bullies will seem like less of a problem and you will have more fun at school.
