How to Design a Car Bedroom Theme
Use a car theme to decorate a bedroom for a young boy, teen or adult who loves cars or racing. Choose their favorite color, make, model or race car to build the room around. Paint the walls to serve as the backdrop or create a focal point. Use sky blue or gray if you want the walls to create an unobtrusive background. Paint a mural, such as a racetrack with cars on it, city streets filled with cars or paint a border using cars or a checkered finish line flag. Use large posters, pictures or decals of life-size cars that can easily be taken down or replaced if the bedroom's occupant changes his mind about the theme later.

Make or purchase furniture that fits into the car theme, or use traditional furniture that won't take away from the theme but can work for other themes later. Use car-shaped headboards or leather seats from a classic car. Create a headboard to look like the front grill of a favorite car, then use small reading lamps for the headlights. Furniture made to look like a large tool box or lockers would fit in with the car theme, too.

Choose bedding that adds to the car decor. Plain colors, checkers or bedding that features images of cars would work. One option is a plain black comforter with red, yellow and green pillows. Accent pillows that look like wheels, racing flags, stop lights or street signs will fit in with the car theme.

Use shelves to display model cars, car show trophies or photos of his favorite cars. Specialty shelves that look like the front bumper of a car may be an ideal option.

Add decorative accessories to complete the look. Younger children might enjoy a rug that displays a race track or city with streets. Place a car seat at the foot of the bed for additional seating. Hang a novelty traffic light on the wall or use car-shaped items such as alarm clocks or lamps. Make vanity license plates to hang on the wall.
