How to Convert an iTouch to an iPhone

The iPod Touch lacks the components necessary to make telephone calls, but you can use its ability to connect to the Internet to make Voice Over IP calls using Skype. The application can make free calls to other Skype users; you'll have to pay to call nonusers. You will need to be connected to a WiFi device to make a call.

Things You'll Need

• iPod Touch (2G or later)
• WiFi connection
• Skype app
• Skype account
• Skype credit
• Credit card
• Headphone with microphone

Instructions

1. Download the Skype app from the App Store. You can obtain it by visiting the App Store on your iPod Touch or by using iTunes.

2. Set up a Skype account. Tap on the "Create account" link or by visiting the Skype website (see Reference 1 below).

3. Buy Skype credit if you will be making calls to non-Skype users. To buy credit from the app, tap on "My info," then tap on "Skype credit" and finally "Buy Skype credit". You will be taken to the Skype website to complete the transaction.

4. Plug your headphones into the jack on your iPod Touch.

5. Connect your iPod Touch to a WiFi network. Your call will be transmitted over the Internet, so you must be in a location where you will not lose this connection.

6. Make a call. You can tap on "Contacts" and then the plus sign to add contacts. When you are adding a contact, you can enter their number or search the Skype directory.
