How to Clean Dakin Stuffed Animals

Dakin stuffed animals are a brand of plush toys ranging in size and animal breeds. Keeping Dakin stuffed animals clean can be a challenge, especially if a child insists on taking her special friend everywhere she goes. Dirt, grease, finger paints and more find their way to the fabric of the toy. Surface washing Dakin stuffed animals is the best way to get the dirt and grime off of the plush without damaging the structure of the animal. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the bowl with warm water. You don't want the water to be too hot because this might cause the fabric or filler to shrink and damage the Dakin.

    • 2

Add a dime-size amount of detergent to the water. Stir it with your hand to make the water sudsy.

    • 3

Dip the washcloth into the soapy water then pull it out. Wring it out to remove most of the water.

    • 4

Wrap the washcloth around your pointer finger and brush the surface of the Dakin. Keep your motion moving in the same direction so the fluff doesn't mat. Clean the entire Dakin washing and wringing the washcloth intermittently to get rid of any dirt on the washcloth.

    • 5

Empty the bowl and rinse it out. Refill it with cool water.

    • 6

Dip the second washcloth in the cool water and wring it out. Wipe the Dakin with this to remove any soap on the stuffed animal.

    • 7

Allow the Dakin to sit and air dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • It might be wise to clean a small section first to make sure the detergent is safe for the Dakin and will not fade the colors. Do a section not readily visible and allow it to dry. Examine the Dakin to make sure it is OK.

  • If you are a collector, you know that the less you handle your Dakin, the cleaner it will remain and the more it will be worth. Keep the tags on the plush toy to further increase the value.

  • Placing a Dakin stuffed animal in the washing machine and dryer can cause damage or destroy the plush toy. If you do place the animal in the washer, only do so on a delicate setting and in a lingerie bag. You can place the Dakin in the dryer on a low heat setting, checking on it regularly to make sure it isn't falling apart in the dry cycle.
