How to Mix Music on the Internet
Mixing music on the internet is lots of fun and offers the opportunity to build a fan base. Several different websites now offer various ways of providing music mixes online for friends, family, and potential fans. There are three ways to mix music on the internet: building playlists, podcasting, and mixing original music.
Instructions
-
Building Playlists
-
1
To make a mix for your friends using an internet radio service, select the site that has the music you want to mix. Many sites now offer on-demand libraries of music that you can mix and play for free. Such sites include: Mog.com, Grooveshark.com, and Songza.fm.
-
2
Search their on-demand library of music and add each song to your playlist.
-
-
3
Once you have completed your mix, find the "share" option on the website and email it to all your friends.
Podcasting and Original DJ Mixes
-
4
Gather all the music that you want to go into your mix.
-
5
Use a multi-track audio program (e.g. GarageBand, Ableton Live, Audacity, etc.) to import the songs into an audio channel in the order you want them to play back.
-
6
Stack each song and file back to back so that they flow into each other.
-
7
If you are an experienced DJ, you can make this mix in real-time and record it with your software.
-
8
Once you have the mix arranged, choose "Export" under the file menu and export the entire mix into one audio file (WAV, AIFF, MP3, etc.).
-
9
To make the mix available to friends online as a podcast, choose a podcast hosting service such as Podomatic.com or Podbean.com.
To share the mix as a DJ mix, select one of the many DJ mix hosting sites such as Dj-mixes.com or Djmix.net.
