How to Incubate Silkie Eggs

Egg incubation is vital for farmers or people who have chickens. Silkies are a variety of chicken with fluffy soft feathers. Sometimes chickens will not sit on their eggs, so you must incubate them to produce more silkies. Dry incubation has become increasingly popular because of its high success rate, generally around 90 percent.

Things You'll Need

• Foam incubator
• Cup of water
• Heat lamps
• Silkie eggs
• Hygrometer

Instructions

1. Set up the foam incubator and position the heat lamps accordingly to keep the temperature at or very near 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Set up the hygrometer in the room and keep the humidity between 50-75 percent for a few days.

3. Choose a room where there is never more than a 20 degree temperature variance, and keep the eggs within 10 degrees of 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit.

4. Put the silkie eggs into your foam incubator. Choose the good eggs from healthy silkie parents to enjoy a higher hatch rate.

5. Turn eggs regularly, between two and three times per day.

6. Add a little bit of water, about ¼ cup, once a week to keep the humidity levels up high enough to incubate the eggs, but not so much as to drown the chicks as they hatch.

7. Hatching occurs after about 20 days.
