How to Create a Baseball League Schedule

A baseball schedule is usually created by the coach or assistant coach of a team because the information needed to complete a schedule is generally distributed to members of the coaching staff. The number of teams in the league and game played by each team will vary, but the process used to create the schedule remains the same. A computer spreadsheet program is the easiest method for producing a schedule that is easy to read and easy to make multiple copies.

Instructions

  1. Creating the Schedule Layout

    • 1

Open a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel or Open Office. Open Office provides a free alternative to purchasing the program.

    • 2

Create three columns. From left to right, title the columns date, location/time and opponent.

    • 3

In the "Date" column, list the dates of each baseball game. The date should be listed in chronological order with the first game at the top.

    • 4

In the "Location/Time" column, enter the field/complex and start time of the game that corresponds with the date in the column to its left.

    • 5

List the team that will be played on each date in the remaining column.

Tips & Warnings

  • Include addresses of the fields/complexes where the games will be held so individuals have directions ahead of time.

  • If you are the coach, list your telephone number(s) and email address on the schedule so players/parents can contact you with questions.

  • If your league has a number to call to check on weather-related game cancellations, list that on the schedule as well.

  • Use bold text for the column headings and start times.

  • If you have players/parents bring drinks to the games, add an additional column that list the individual in charge of this process for each game.

  • Make the schedule in large, easy-to-read font. The goal is to convey information quickly and efficiently, not win an art contest.

  • Make sure that the "Location/Time" column is accurate. A misspelling could results in players getting lost.
