How to Read Tractor Tire Sizes

Even the tires on your trusty tractor eventually need to be replaced. Whether it is from natural wear and tear or from accidental damage, you need to know the size of your tires to replace them. You may have noticed that tractor tires are marked differently from the tires on your car or truck. While you can put different sized tires on a tractor, you need to make sure the rims are still a match. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Look on the sidewall of the tractor tire. There are a series of numbers on it. You may need to wash the tires to find where the size is printed.

    • 2

Count how many numbers are on the sidewall. The numbers will be separated by a hyphen or a slash.

    • 3

Determine the size if there are two numbers. The first number is the width of the tire in inches, and the second is the diameter of the rim in inches. For example, if the sidewall reads "11.2-24" or "11.2/24" it means that your tire has a width of 11.2 inches and the diameter of the rim is 24 inches.

    • 4

Determine the size when there are three numbers. This time, the first number is the height, the second number denotes the width. The last number is still the rim size. If your tire reads "15/6.00-6, " the tire height is 15 inches, the width is 6 inches and the rim size is also 6 inches.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you purchased your tractor used, you may find that the tires on it are not tractor tires. See the link in Resources for help if the tires are not standard tractor tires.
