How to Care for Leather With Saddle Soap

Wthout proper care, leather can crack and peel. The key to keeping your leather goods in their original condition is to apply saddle soap. Saddle soap, which contains oil and wax, helps supply moisture and protects the leather. Applying saddle soap to leather is an easy task that won't take much time; the main thing to remember is to apply it to your leather products on a routine basis.

      Wipe your leather goods with a flannel cloth to remove dust and dirt.

      Soak a flannel cloth in water, and squeeze out the excess water until the cloth is damp.

      Dip a portion of the dampened cloth into the saddle soap, and rub the soap into the leather with firm, circular motions.

      Rinse the cloth in warm water and wring it out. Wipe away any lather left on the surface of the leather.

      Use a dry flannel cloth to polish the leather.

      Apply a high-quality leather oil to the cleaned leather with a flannel cloth.
