How to Connect a T-Mobile Wing to a PC

One of the advantages of using a smart phone is tethering or Internet sharing. This is process through which your Internet enabled phone, such as a T-Mobile Wing, is used as a modem for your PC. Internet sharing can be very useful when you are in a location where your PC can't connect to the Internet on its own. You can also use Internet sharing to avoid paying for an Internet connection in cafes or airports.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure you have Windows Mobile Device Center installed on your PC. You can install the software from the CD that was packaged with your T-Mobile Wing. If that isn't available, you can download it directly from Microsoft. (See References 1.)

    • 2

Connect your T-Mobile Wing to your PC, using a USB cable. If your PC is missing any of the device drivers needed to work with the T-Mobile Wing, Microsoft Vista will automatically download and install them.

    • 3

Configure the PC settings. Open Windows Mobile Device Center and click "Mobile Device Settings." Then, click "Connection Settings." Check the box next to "Allow Data Connections on Device When Connected to PC." Click "OK."

    • 4

Configure the T-Mobile Wing settings. On the T-Mobile Wing homepage, click "Start" and scroll down until you see "Settings." Click it and then click "Connections." Choose the USB to PC option and then click "OK."

    • 5

Go back to the T-Mobile Wing homepage. Then click "Start." Under "Programs," choose "Accessories" and then "Internet Sharing." Under "PC Connection," choose the USB option under "Internet Sharing Program." Then choose "T-Mobile Data" under "Network Connection." Click "Connect" to start Internet sharing.

Tips & Warnings

  • T-Mobile will charge you for Internet sharing based on the service contract you signed. It is a good idea to check your T-Mobile contract before attempting to use your T-Mobile Wing as a modem. This will help you avoid unexpected charges on your monthly T-Mobile bill.
