Make intricate edible designs on your own cookies with a reusable acetate stencil. You can give your cookies a clean professional appearance by creating a custom stencil instead of employing a free-hand decorating approach, providing the entire batch of cookies a uniform look. Instructions

    • 1

Cut the sheet of acetate into four equally sized pieces.

    • 2

Place one of the acetate pieces on top of a decorative design, and trace the outline with a dark fine point marker.

    • 3

Put the acetate on a cutting board, and follow the marker line with the corner of a razor blade to cut out the unwanted inner area.

    • 4

Dip the corner of a paper towel into rubbing alcohol, and clean both sides of the stencil.

    • 5

Set the clean dry stencil on top of a fully baked and cooled cookie, and hold it in place.

    • 6

Apply your choice of decorative topping generously with a silicone spatula or sifter for an even coat. Frosting, confectioners' sugar and cocoa are popular stencil-topping choices.

    • 7

Serve the cookies immediately, or allow the frosting to set for an hour before packing the cookies for storage in an air-tight container.

    • 8

Clean the stencil in soapy water, and save it for future use.
