How to Make Lime, Lavender and Bay Leaf Aftershave
Lime, lavender and bay leaf aftershave is a simple, natural aftershave that is just as effective as expensive commercial brands. The aftershave has a typically masculine smell, but using more lavender essential oil in place of the bay leaf essential oil will give this mixture a more feminine fragrance. Lime, lavender and bay leaf aftershave will keep for about four months if stored in a dark bottle in a cool place. Things You'll Need
- Juice of 2 limes
- 1 cup witch hazel
- 15 drops lime essential oil
- 12 drops lavender essential oil
- 10 drops bay leaf essential oil
- Large sterilized glass jar with tight-fitting lid
- ½ cup rose water
- ½ cup orange flower water
- 1 tsp. tincture of benzoin
- Clean plastic funnel
- Glass bottle with pump or fine-spray mister

Combine the lime juice, witch hazel, lime, lavender and bay leaf essential oil in a sterilized glass jar. Let the mixture infuse for about 24 hours at room temperature.

Add the rose water, orange flower water and tincture of benzoin. Replace the lid, and let steep for an additional 24 hours.

Shake the jar with the aftershave vigorously for about 30 seconds. Using the funnel, transfer some of the aftershave to a glass bottle that has a pump or a fine-spray mister.

Store the aftershave that remains in the jar in a cool, dry place.

Tips & Warnings
Shake the aftershave gently before each application, as the essential oils have a tendency to sink to the bottom of the bottle and separate.
Avoid mixing or storing any type of homemade cosmetics or skin-care products in an aluminum container, as there is serious concern about heavy metals entering the body through the pores.
