How to Open a Pella Double Hung Window

A Pella double hung window has two window sashes. The top sash abuts with the top of the window casing, while the lower sash is adjacent to the bottom of the window casing as well as the bottom of the top sash. The sashes are secured in the closed position by a latch that holds the two together, making them one fixed unit. Opening a Pella window is a very easy task, requiring no additional tools other than your hands.

Instructions

1. Unlock your windows. There is a lever located on the top of the lower window sash.

2. Pull or push up on the lower window sash, grasping the lip on the bottom edge of the window. If your window has been painted in, it may require a little force.

3. Lift the window until it is in the desired location. There are springs on the sides of window jamb that will hold the window in place. If your window does not stay in place, inspect your springs to ensure that they are functioning properly.
