Microsoft Publisher is a software application that enables Office users to publish various design projects. Unlike Word, Publisher is not a Word processor and can be used in creating documents such as greeting cards, calendars and business cards. There are different versions of Publisher, each associated with a specific Office version. For example, Publisher 2007 is a component of the Office 2007 system. Although Publisher is a component of Office, Office users who have a preference for a particular version of Publisher do not have to use that version of Publisher with their Office system.

Install Office 2007 without Publisher 2007 by selecting the "Customize" option when you insert your Office 2007 CD in the CD-ROM drive of your computer. If you are already using a personal computer (PC) with Office 2007 running Publisher 2007, and would like to use an older version of Publisher, you would need to uninstall your Office 2007 software and reinstall the software using the customize option. Once you select this option, another dialogue box should open.

Install Office 2007 without Publisher 2007 by clicking on the "Installation Options" tab, selecting the "Not Available" option under the "Microsoft Publisher" drop-down menu, and then clicking on the "Install" button located at the bottom of the dialogue box. Choosing this option will install Office 2007 without installing Publisher 2007.

Insert the installation CD of an older version of Publisher after a successful installation of Office 2007 without Publisher 2007, and install the older version of Publisher.
If the older version of Publisher you would like to install is part of an older Office installation CD, simply insert the CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive, and then be sure to select "Customize" as the installation option; you will need to select the "Not Available" option for all Office components except Publisher. This will install only the older version of Publisher while allowing you to still use the other Office 2007 components.
