How to Attach a LCD Projector

Using an LCD projector allows you to send your computer's display to a larger projector screen. You will be able to guarantee your PowerPoint presentation can be seen by the entire audience. Set-up your projector and computer in the best position for projecting the image onto the screen. The projector should be positioned as close to perpendicular to the screen as possible.

Plug the video output of your computer into the video input of your LCD projector. Most computers will use a VGA cable to connect the computer to the projector, but newer computers and projectors may use either a DVI or HDMI cable. Make sure your refer to the documentation on your computer and projector to determine the correct cable for your needs.

If you want audio to your projector, connect the audio out on your computer to the audio in on your projector.

Turn on your LCD projector and wait for it to warm up. Once the projector is warmed up it should project the manufacturers logo on your screen followed by a blue screen.

Open the display manager on your computer. On a Vista PC, right click on the desktop and select "Personalize," then select "Display Properties." On a Mac, click on the main menu and select "System Preferences," then "Displays."

Select "Identify Monitors" on a PC or "Detect Displays" on a Mac. This will force your computer to recognize your projector. When your projector appears on the list of monitors select it and your computer will be displayed through your projector.

Use the projector's settings to adjust the display size, focus and viewing angle of the projected image.

Tips & Warnings
Turn your projector off when it's not in use. If the projector overheats it can damage the bulb and reduce the life of your projector.
