How to Mulch Grass for a Toro Lawnmower
The most efficient way to keep a healthy, green lawn properly nourished is to use a mulching lawn mower. Toro has a line of them, outfitted with easy plates to make switching from mulching to bagging or spreading easier. Mulching with the Toro line of mowers is easy, and you'll get the best results by performing a few basic maintenance tasks on your mower each year. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Mow with specially-designed blades to mulch when cutting the grass. These blades are shaped to lift the grass so that it is cut multiple times for finer mulch.
-
2
Sharpen the mower's blades each season. Turn the mower on its side and remove the bolt that attaches the blades to the mower deck. Sharpen the blades with a mower-blade sharpener and reattach.

3
Position the mulching plate over the discharge chute and attach with the included screw in the Toro mulching kit. Hand tighten. The mulching plate aids the blades in chopping the grass multiple times.
-
4
Gently brush with a wide push broom any areas of the lawn where the grass is finely chopped but not sifting down to the roots. Do this regularly if your grass is particularly thick.

Tips & Warnings
If you have a rocky yard, or one that has a lot of twigs and branches that make contact with the blades, you may want to sharpen the blades at mid-season as well.
Survey the yard after each mulching. Though mulched grass can be a highly-effective means of feeding a lawn, high accumulations or insufficiently mulched grass will rest on top of the lawn and smother the grass. This can lead to brown spots or dead grass, so make sure to inspect your work after each mowing.
Areas where the mulched grass rests on top of the lawn instead of falling to the roots should be raked. Sharpening the mulching blades will help prevent this.
