Instructions

    • 1

Grease a shallow microwave safe dish with vegetable oil or butter.

    • 2

Crack the egg into the dish and pick out any pieces of shell that fall in.

    • 3

Pierce the center of the yolk with the very tip of a toothpick. Breaking the surface tension on the yolk will help to prevent an explosion.

    • 4

Season the egg with salt and pepper. Cover the dish with a piece of plastic wrap to trap steam so the egg's top and bottom cook evenly.

    • 5

Microwave the egg at half power for approximately two minutes or until the egg white on top is nearly cooked. Allow the egg to sit covered until the whites become opaque and the yolk has just begun to thicken.

    • 6

Remove the plastic wrap carefully by lifting a corner and venting the steam away from your hand. Gently slide the egg onto a plate. Repeat the process cooking one egg at a time for best results.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cooking times will vary by microwave due to different wattage levels. Watch the egg while it cooks to adjust the technique for your appliance.
