How to Transfer an Application to the iPod or iTouch

Applications are some of the most interesting and useful features available on the iPod Touch and the iPhone. You can download them directly on your phone or iPod, but it's far easier and more convenient to download them using a computer and iTunes.

Instructions

  1. Downloading Apps

      Open iTunes.

      Click "iTunes store" in the sidebar.

      Click "App Store," located near the top of the store window, on a black bar.

      Browse for the applications you're interested in and download them.

    Transferring Apps Automatically

      To automatically sync all the apps you have to your iPod Touch or iPhone, connect the device to your computer using the included USB cable.

      Click on the iPhone or iPod Touch under "Devices" in the sidebar.

      Click the "Applications" tab at the top of the iPhone/iPod Touch summary screen.

      Check the box labeled "Sync Applications" in the top left. Verify that each application also has a check mark next to it.

      Press the "Apply" button in the bottom right to save the changes to your preferences, and then press "Sync," which should appear in the area where the "Apply" button was before you pressed it. After the syncing finishes, your apps should be transferred on your device.

    Transferring Apps Manually

      You can also choose to manually sync apps to your iPod Touch or iPhone, which also requires you to use the included USB cable to connect it to your computer.

      Click on your device in the iTunes sidebar under "Devices."

      Go to the Applications tab at the top of the screen and ensure that "Sync Applications" is unchecked. If you have to uncheck it, press "Apply" in the bottom right corner.

      Drag and drop all the applications you'd like to move to your device onto the device's icon.
