How to Connect GPS to an Auto Stereo
Many automotive GPS devices offer the ability to store and play audio-book and music files. If your GPS includes an FM transmitter or modulator, you can create a wireless connection between the GPS and your auto stereo. If your GPS does not include an FM transmitter or modulator, you can create a wired connection between the two devices with a standard audio cable.
Things You'll Need
- Garmin or Magellan GPS
- FM transmitter or modulator (wireless method)
- Male-to-male 1/4-inch jack audio cable with car stereo auxiliary input port (wired method)

FM Transmitter (Garmin GPS)

Select "Volume," "Audio Output," then "FM Transmitter" to display the "Frequency Adjust" screen.

Select an unused (no broadcast) FM station on your car radio.

Press the "+" or "-" buttons on your GPS to select the same station.
FM Modulator (Magellan GPS)

Select "Main Menu," "Settings," "Sound," "FM Modulator."

At the warning alert, press "Yes."

Select "Modulator Settings."

Select an unused (no broadcast) FM station on your car radio.

Press the "Tune" up and down arrows to select the same station.
Audio Cable (Garmin or Magellan GPS)

Plug one end of a male-to-male 1/4-inch jack audio cable into the audio output port of the GPS device.

Locate the "Aux-in" (auxiliary input) port on your car stereo. Most car stereo "Aux-in" ports are located on the stereo faceplate.

Plug the other end of the 1/4-inch jack cable into the "Aux-in" port of your car stereo.

Select the "Aux-in" mode on your car stereo.

Tips & Warnings
Obtain a cassette adapter for the wired method if your car stereo has a cassette player in place of an auxiliary input port.
