How to Trap Wild Game
There are many different snares and traps for gaming wild animals. The most basic and simple to use trap is a plain commercial snare bought from a specialty sporting goods store. The more snares you use, the more successful you will be catching your game. Always be prepared to eat what you catch.

Season your snares. Open and close new snares about 10 times to remove any burrs in the cable. Fill a large pot with water and place your snares in the pot. Once the water is boiling, slowly add 1 cup of baking soda. Allow to boil for 15 minutes. Rinse off the snares.

Find a well-traveled animal trail. Follow the trail until it narrows because of natural obstacles, such as trees or rocks. Secure the snare to a tree trunk, heavy log or stake in the ground with a 14-gauge wire.

Set and form your snare. Again, open and close the snare about 10 times to remove any burrs in the wire. Form the loop of the snare so it forms a circle the size of the animal you want to catch. Place the snare in the center of the path. Make sure the slide top of the snare is not touching the ground. Secure it up with a rock or stick if necessary.

Place a penny, or something else you will remember, where the trap is so you can find it the next day. Remember landmarks.

Place sticks along the path to guide wild game to the snare. Leave overnight.

Tips & Warnings
A tree growing at a 45-degree angle or so is a great place to set a snare. Wild game may use this tree to access the tree canopy.
Approach a caught animal with caution. Wild game carry rabies and parasites.
Always remember to remove your traps when you are finished.
