How to Make a Halloween-Themed Balloon Centerpiece

You don't have to spend a fortune to make an impressive, Halloween-themed balloon centerpiece. As long as you remember to use a gentle touch when working on the project, it's a fairly simple project. The easiest centerpiece is created by drawing on an orange balloon to make it look like a jack-o-lantern. However, this tends to be a dull and predictable decoration. For a spooky centerpiece that is far from expected, use some black balloons to create a large decoration comprised of spiders.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • 4 Large oval balloons, black
    • 4 Small round balloons, black
    • Black string
    • Scissors
    • 16 Large chenille stems (pipe cleaners), black
    • Silver permanent marker
    • Fake spider web
    • Tape
      • 1

Blow up the oval and round balloons about 2/3 full of air. Tie the balloon ends in a knot to secure. Place the oval balloon so that the knot is facing towards you and the round balloon so that the knot is facing away from you. Use black string to tie the two knots together to create an oval balloon spider body and round balloon spider head for the Halloween-themed balloon centerpiece.

Take a chenille stem and fold it in half. Carefully twist the middle of the chenille stem around the knotted area between the balloon spider head and body to create a leg on each side. Bend the stems to look like spider legs that bend at the knee. Repeat process to add three more chenille stems to the Halloween-themed balloon centerpiece so that your balloon spider has a total of eight legs.

Take the silver permanent marker and gently draw two eyes on the front of the round balloon. Let the marker dry for a few minutes.

      • 4

Repeat Steps 1, 2 and 3 with the remaining balloons to create a total of four balloon spiders.

      • 5

Spread a little of the fake spider web in the middle of the table. Place the balloon spiders on the web in the center of the table, faces out. One spider should face north, one west, one south and one east. Push the balloon spiders together so that their rumps meet to create a Halloween themed balloon centerpiece.

Pull a long and thin strand of the fake spider web and tape it to the ceiling, right above the balloon spider centerpiece. Pull the strand down and tuck the bottom into the hidden area between the spider rumps so that it looks like four huge spiders are sitting in a web that hangs by a spider thread from the ceiling.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Do not buy cheap balloons that have been sitting on the store shelf for months to make a Halloween-themed balloon centerpiece. These balloons are very weak and break easily. For the best results, invest in some quality balloons. The price difference between a cheap balloon and a quality balloon is small enough that it should make very little difference in your balloon spider budget.
