How to Apply Bold Eye Shadow

To add instant glamour to your personal look, applying bold eye shadow is a moderately easy process. Although it may take a few applications to reach perfection, it will take less time each time you apply it. Bold eye shadow should not be worn in everyday situations; it is more suitable for evening wear and formal occasions. Applying bold eye shadow exaggerates the color and shape of your eyes. Instructions

    • 1

Apply one pea-sized dot of foundation to each eyelid using a makeup sponge. Start at the eyelash line and completely cover your entire upper eye area all the way to the brow. Apply another pea-sized dot of foundation under each eye, and blend in completely. The foundation on top will aid in keeping your eye shadow on longer, and the foundation under the eye will help minimize the appearance of dark circles, resulting in a more refined look.

Apply black eyeliner to your upper and lower eyelids. Using a black eyeliner pencil, draw a straight line across the upper eyelid, just above the eyelash line, starting thin closest to the eye and gradually becoming thicker toward the outer part of the eye. Across the bottom of your lower lash line, draw a straight line as thin as possible. Using your finger, lightly smudge the upper eye liner to make it appear smoky.

    • 3

Using the eye shadow applicator, sweep one layer of the light silver eye shadow over the entire surface of each eyelid, from the upper lash line to the eyebrows. This color will serve as the base eye shadow while also being the highlight just below your eyebrows.

With the eye shadow brush, gently apply the charcoal gray eye shadow into the creases of both eyes. To get a dramatic effect, apply two to three coats until your desired shade is achieved. Do not be concerned if it does not look good at this point because you will soon be blending the colors together to create a natural flow.

    • 5

Using the other side of the eye shadow applicator, sweep one layer of the light to medium gray eye shadow on each eyelid while blending it into the charcoal gray eye shadow that is on the creases of your eyes. Use more or less of the light gray eye shadow until it is naturally blended with the charcoal gray eye shadow.

Complete your bold look by applying at least three coats of a volume-inducing mascara. Allow 30 seconds of drying time between each application to help avoid clumps in your eyelashes.
