How to Set Up Router for Remote Access
Remote access, as defined by PCstats.com, allows you to access files remotely or access and control the desktop remotely. This allows you to access and use files located on a remote computer. In order to do this, the computer must first be set up for remote access. Setting up remote access on a computer is simple, but if that computer is behind a router, the remote connection can fail. It is important to properly configure your router for remote access.

Input the port your remote access program uses to communicate. For example, if you are using pcAnywhere version 12, input port number 5632 since pcAnywhere connects on port 5632. Some routers ask for a port range, in which case you can enter the same number separated by a hyphen.
