How to Remove a Tap Handle

Men have been brewing beer for centuries, while finding ways to enhance aroma, flavor and of course how to sell it. Beer comes in many varieties and is packaged in numerous ways. The most popular method for brew-houses is to store beer in a keg, tapped to a pour spout. The bar industry at times has to replace kegs and change out tap handles to make room for new beers. Tapping a keg and removing a tap handle is a task most bartenders will perform during their careers in the bar industry. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the tapping hose from the beer keg. Grab the handle of the tap mechanism and pull it toward you, then lock it into its upward position. Twist the handle counter clockwise to remove it from the keg.

    • 2

Pull the tap handle on the pour spout to release any excess beer or foam stored in the hoses. Let it run into the drain for a minute.

    • 3

Push the tap handle back to the valve lock position. Grab the neck of the tap handle and twist it counter-clockwise. The tap handle will unscrew from the pour spout easily.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always remove the keg of beer to ensure no beer will be wasted if you accidentally open the release valve while unscrewing the tap handle.

  • Ensure you are of legal age to consume alcoholic beverages.
