How to Replace an LED in a Projector Headlight

LED lights have become wildly popular in recent years. These energy-efficient lights provide much more output than their incandescent counterparts, using only a fraction of the energy. But, as with any form of light bulb, they will burn out over time. Replacing the LED on an automobile headlight is just as simple as replacing any conventional bulb, and requires no tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the hood of your car or truck and locate the area behind your headlights.

    • 2

Find the cord that supplies power to your headlights. This will be an insulated wire that is attached to the back of your headlights. Disconnect it by pulling it off of the headlight.

    • 3

Grab the plastic piece that the wire was connected to; turn it counterclockwise while pulling on it gently. This will eventually remove it from the headlight.

    • 4

You will now be holding the connector as well as the LED bulb in your hand. Pull the old bulb out of the connector and place the new one into it.

    • 5

Place the bulb and connector back into the headlight and turn it clockwise to secure it in place. Reattach the insulated wire to the connector.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you have not operated the lights for at least 30 minutes before beginning the replacement. Recently used lights can be very hot and will burn skin on contact.
