Gather up accessories. Most laptops come with several items aside from the laptop itself. These accessories can be anything from the AC cord and adapter, to the documentation and warranty info. If you have the original box, get that as well. Collect any additional accessories that you may have bought for the laptop, and that you do not mind parting with. Additional accessories can make the difference between someone buying a laptop from you rather than elsewhere.

Take some photos of the laptop and accessories. Take one photo of everything you are including for sale. For example, if you are selling the laptop, the charger, the warranty documentation, an extra battery and a case, be sure to take a photograph of all of them together. Take individual photos of each item that you are including with the laptop: the charger, the battery, etc... Take multiple photos of the laptop from different angles, as many detailed pictures as possible.

Write a quality description of the laptop. Include details such as when it was purchased, how much it has been used, what accessories are included, etc... Include the exact manufacturer and model number, as well as the specs (processor speed, capacity, etc.).

Decide on your price. Pick out a price that you are willing to sell the laptop for. If the laptop is in good condition, meaning little to no scratches, with 100 percent functionality, you can usually price it at about 70 percent of what you originally purchased it for. However, the age of the laptop also plays into this equation. If you purchased a laptop in 1985, chances are you will not get 70 percent of what you paid for it no matter how good a shape it is in. Set your price at a reasonable number, and take note of it.

Sell the laptop. There are numerous options. Online auction sites like eBay are always a good choice, because you are putting your laptop in front of thousands of potential buyers. With auction sites, you can list your laptop for either a Buy It Now price, or an auction-style listing. With a Buy It Now, you will get exactly what you are asking for the laptop. However, it is not a guarantee that it will sell. With an auction-style listing, you are guaranteed to sell your laptop if it gets a bid, but you may not get as much money as you want for it. Consider using an auction-style listing with a reserve price. This gives the best of both worlds.

If you do not want to sell through an auction, consider selling the laptop locally. The site Craigslist allows users to post local items for sale for free. Also, consider purchasing an ad in your local newspaper.
