How to Flash BIOS ROM From Your Hard Drive
Flashing a BIOS ROM is a procedure used to update the basic firmware that dictates how hardware operates within a computer. BIOS firmware is most commonly updated on a computer motherboard, but BIOS updates may also be available for other hardware such as system drives, graphics cards, or optical drives. Updating the BIOS allows the hardware to take advantage of technological developments that were not available when it was originally manufactured. BIOS updates are also used by the hardware manufacturer to fix problems that are detected with the original BIOS programming after release.

1
Download the BIOS updating software from the hardware manufacturer. Check your user's manual to obtain the manufacturer's name, such as ASUS or nVidia, and model number of the hardware you wish to update, then locate the BIOS update in the technical support section of the manufacturer's website. The manufacturer's website can be found online using Google or other search engines.

2
Close all other applications or processes that are running as they can lead to the failure of the BIOS upgrade. This includes programs such as anti-virus software which may be running in the background.
-
-
3
Launch the updating program and follow any on-screen prompts as indicated by the software.
-
4
Restart the computer when prompted to load the new BIOS firmware you have just installed. This step may be performed automatically by the software package.

Tips & Warnings
If the user's manual is unavailable, you can also open the computer and obtain the information from the hardware itself. Don't forget to remove the power plug and ground yourself for any work with the computer while the case is open.
Perform no other tasks while the update is being performed and close all other applications. Make sure the power supply to the computer will not be interrupted during the update. A failed BIOS update almost always results in a completely inoperable piece of hardware that in many cases must be replaced or have ROM chips reinstalled in order to recover.
