Download and install a free video converter program such as AVC Video Converter (see Resources). This program allows you to download and convert YouTube videos to MP4 format.

Launch the program after completing the installation and click the "YouTube" button on the main panel. This launches the "Import videos from the Internet" window.

Type in the URL address of the YouTube video you want to download in the URL window. Click "OK."

Select "Customized MP4 Movie" on the "Profile" Window. MP4 is a popular video format supported by a majority of websites, cell phones and portable media players.

Select the codec you want to use and select the output video size under "Video Options." Select a video codec such as H.264 if you want to compress video for devices such as iPods. H.264 compresses video in high quality while keeping the file sizes relatively small.
