How to Use Anatomy Coloring Books for Health
Children enjoy coloring. Teachers can use this as a way to teach them about the anatomy of their bodies. When it comes to anatomy, there is a lot to remember: 206 bones, miles of blood vessels and body systems such as the respiratory, circulatory and digestive to name a few. Using coloring books helps children memorize the parts of their body and remember them when it is time to test their knowledge. Help your students make their own coloring books to organize and memorize the human anatomy.

1
Find coloring book pages that are legal to print. These can be found on home school and teacher websites, as well as in some educational books. Look for separate worksheets that highlight different parts of the anatomy.
-
2
Post a chart in the room for each specific worksheet. Print a copy of the worksheet on projector paper and project it on the classroom wall large enough for all of the students to see.

3
Create a color chart for each anatomy worksheet. Tell the children to color specific bones specific colors. For example one instruction could be "Color the ribs blue." Allow them to use uncolored charts to help them study and find specific body parts so they can color their pages accordingly using their colored pencils.
-
4
Give an oral quiz after each student completes the coloring page for a body system. Tell them to flip their coloring pages over so they cannot cheat. Ask questions about the anatomy of the body they were studying and coloring. Allow them to flip the coloring page over and peek if no one knows the answer to a question you ask.
-
5
Keep all the pages to each section of the anatomy in a folder until all the sheets are completed. Align the pages so they are even along the edges. Use a 3-hole punch to make holes in one side of the pile of coloring pages.
-
6
Loop yarn through the whole stack of pages, tie the yarn securely to form a coloring book that the students can continue to study and learn from, and then take home at the end of the health unit study or at the end of the school year.

Tips & Warnings
For the cover of the student's coloring books, take a picture of each child individually. Photoshop or cut out and paste their face onto a skeleton that shows the different bones.
