How to Operate the Ronco Rotisserie

Brought to you by famed TV pitchman and inventor Ron Popeil, the Ronco Showtime rotisserie is a countertop appliance that lets you enjoy attractive, oven-roasted foods for a fraction of the cost you would pay to buy them already prepared. Most commonly used to roast chicken, the Showtime rotisserie also cooks steaks, pork chops, burgers, lamb, turkey, kebobs, fish and vegetables. To cook a variety of foods, you need several accessories--some standard and others optional--such as spit rods, kebob rods, food baskets, a heating tray and a flavor injector. Instructions

    • 1

Load the food onto the spit rods, kebob rods or cooking basket depending on the type of food you are cooking. If you are roasting large cuts of meat or chickens, put the meat on the spit rods. For vegetables or smaller pieces of meat, such as hamburgers or boneless chicken breasts, arrange the food in a cooking basket. Skewered foods go on the kebob rods.

    • 2

Load the food into the rotisserie. Choose cooking position "A" unless you are cooking small items. For smaller foods, use cooking position "B" so they will be closer to the heating element.

    • 3

Turn the switch to the "Normal Rotation" setting. You don't need to set a specific cooking temperature.

    • 4

Set a timer for the desired cooking time plus two minutes. The extra two minutes allow the rotisserie to heat up. You should not preheat the Showtime rotisserie before putting the food in.

    • 5

Turn the rotisserie off. If you are not ready to eat, you can turn the switch to the "No Heat Rotation" setting to keep meat warm and juices well-distributed.

    • 6

Remove the food. Use oven mitts to protect your hands.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remove excess fat from meats before cooking.

  • Always use cooking position "A" when roasting two chickens. When roasting one chicken, use cooking position "A" if the chicken is greater than 3 1/2 pounds; otherwise, use cooking position B.

  • On the television commercial, Popeil says to "set it and forget it" when using the Showtime rotisserie. However, for safe operation you still need to check on the rotisserie occasionally. Never turn on the rotisserie and then leave the house.

  • Make sure no food is touching the heating element.

  • Turn the rotisserie off before removing the food.
