How to Reinstall QuickTime 5

QuickTime 5 digital media playback application was produced by Apple and is capable of playing both music and video files. However, this version was superseded by the 6th edition of the software over a year later. QuickTime is free for both Windows and Mac operating systems, although it's installed with the latter and can be downloaded for the former. If you have accidentally removed this application from your computer, you can download it from Apple's website. The installer file comes in a RAR compressed format, so you will have to install WinRAR archiving software first.

Instructions

  1. Install WinRar

      Go to the website in the Resource section for a free download of the WinRAR archiver and click on "Save File" in the automated pop-up window to begin the download.

      Double-click the saved file after the download is finished and click on "Yes" to confirm execution.

      Follow the step-by-step instructions of the Installation Wizard to install WinRAR.

    Reinstall QuickTime 5

      Go to the Apple website (see link in the Resource section), scroll through the list of QuickTime 5 installer files for different languages and click on the "Download" button next to the selected language.

      Click on "Save File" button in the confirmation pop-up to accept the download.

      Double-click the saved file in RAR format after the download is finished, which will automatically launch the WinRAR archiver and decompress the file.

      Double-click the "QuickTimeCDInstaller" folder within WinRAR window and then double-click the "QuickTimeInstaller.exe" file to begin installation.

      Follow the prompts of the Installation Wizard to install the software.

Tips & Warnings

  • Follow the link in the Resource section for QuickTime 5 download for Mac OS 7.5.5 through Mac OS 9.x. You do not need to decompress the installer file, just click on the "Download" button, save the file and then double-click on it to begin installation.

  • Follow the link in the Reference for QuickTime 5 reinstaller download for Mac OS X 10.1.3 -10.1.5. Follow the same routine as with earlier versions of the operating system.

  • You have to uninstall other versions of the software before installing QuickTime 5.

  • QuckTime 5 for Windows is available for versions 95 to XP only.
