How to Wear a Nurse Hat

Florence Nightingale helped introduce the nursing uniform in the 19th century to help bring professionalism to the nursing field. Included in the nursing uniform was a nurse hat, which helped nurses keep their hair in place while working. For a nursing cap to both look professional and keep your hair in place, it's important to wear a nurse hat the way it was intended.

Instructions

    • 1

Fix your hair as you plan to wear it with your hat on. It's easier to wear a nurse hat on top of an existing hairstyle than it is to style your hair around the nursing cap.

    • 2

Place the nurse hat on top of your head. It shouldn't sit on the front of your head or on the back of your head. Instead, sit it on top of your head so your hair shows all the way around it.

    • 3

Check the angle of your hat. The front of your hat should stand straight up. If it leans forward or backward, adjust it appropriately.

    • 4

Slide bobby pins onto the bottom of your hat to secure it in place on your head. Use as many bobby pins as necessary so your hat is comfortable to wear but doesn't fall off.
