Instructions

    • 1

Setup a wireless router in your house, if you plan on using the Internet on your Nintendo DS inside the house. The wireless router must have WEP security enabled. If the router doesn't have this type of security, turn off the security settings, which lets you connect without a password.

Turn on your Nintendo DS and enter the Setup Menu. Then look for the icon labeled Nintendo WiFi Settings and select "Connection Slot". The DS gives you the option to manually connect to an access point, or search for available access points.

    • 3

Choose to search for available access points in your area. This forces the Nintendo DS to automatically scan the surrounding area and find any available wireless internet or WiFi connections in the area. The system will identify the available networks with specific icons that look like small padlocks.

Look for an open, blue padlock, which indicates that you have an open WiFi access point in the area. A grey padlock indicates that a wireless network in your area doesn't support the Nintendo DS and a red padlock indicates a private or secured network.

Connect to a WiFi signal manually if you know the access point and IP address of the router. Select "Manual Setup" from the Connections Menu and enter the information when prompted. This is helpful if the DS fails to identify any access points.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you know the password for the secured network, you can connect your DS to that network. Simply select that network from the ones shown on the screen and enter the password when prompted. If you're staying in a hotel, the wireless internet is often protected by a password.

  • If you have problems when you put WiFi on your DS, try putting a game inside the system. From the main menu of the game, look for the Nintendo WiFi Connection Settings icon, which may also be listed under the options menu. Then try searching for available wireless access again.
