How to Paint Exhaust Pipes

The exhaust of your car is responsible for expelling the hit gasses from the engine and pushing them out the back of the vehicle. Since most exhausts are made of steel, they can get cold when the vehicle is cold, and once hot exhaust gasses run through it, condensation can form and so can rust. If you want to prevent this before it happens, one way is to paint the exhaust. You'll need a high-temp paint and some basic tools, but it can be done easily at your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift up the vehicle using the jack and place it on jack stands. Make sure the vehicle is secure before you crawl underneath it.

    • 2

Crawl underneath the vehicle and mask off everything underneath the vehicle using the masking tape and masking paper. You want to mask off anything that you don't want painted.

    • 3

Spray the exhaust with the high-temp paint. You want to lay on a light coat at first, then wait about 20 minutes for it to dry. Then spray a second, heavier coat, until the color is saturated on the exhaust.
