How to Expand Internet Explorer Browser

Attempting to use an Internet browser for the first time can be daunting. It may be confusing at first as you try to figure out where to find and how to use all the options. Thankfully, Microsoft has made its browser, Internet Explorer, user friendly; it has different ways of accessing the same option--including the option to expand the browser window--to make web browsing easier for you.

Instructions

  1. Using the Buttons

    • 1

Open Internet Explorer. A button for Internet Explorer should be on your desktop or at the top of the "Start" menu. If it is in neither of these places go to "Start," then "All Programs." An Internet Explorer button should be within the menu list after mousing over or clicking "All Programs."

    • 2

In the top right corner of the Internet Explorer window you will see three symbols: An underscore mark, a square, and an "X." The underscore is the "Minimize" button, the square is "Maximize" button, and the "X" is the "Exit" button. Hit the square, or "Maximize" button, to expand the screen.

    • 3

If you wish to decrease the size of the window after it is maximized, look in the top right corner of the window again. Where the square button was before, there will now be two smaller squares called "Restore Down." Hit this button to decrease the size again.

    Using the Menu

    • 4

Open Internet Explorer as explained in Section 1.

    • 5

In the top left corner of the Internet Explorer window you will see the blue IE symbol. Click on the symbol. This opens a dropdown menu where you can choose to "Minimize," "Maximize," "Size," "Move," or "Close" the window. Hit "Maximize" to expand the window.

If you wish to decrease the size of the window after it is maximized, look in the top left corner of the window again. You will notice that the option to "Restore Down" is no longer gray. Click on this option to decrease the size of the window again.
