How to Soak Corn Cobs in Sugar Water & Keep Warm

If summer and sweet corn go together, it seems fitting to gather the best tips for making the sweetest and most tender sweet corn possible. Once you have boiled the sweet corn to perfection, serve it immediately for best results. If you must hold off from serving it right away, keep it warm by simmering the corn in the water in which it cooked. The corn will stay warm for several hours this way. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Eight cobs of shucked sweet corn
  • Large stockpot
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 tablespoons white vinegar
  • Cold water
  • Stove top

Instructions

      Fill the stockpot approximately two-thirds full of cold water. Add the sugar and white vinegar to the stockpot and stir well.

      Place the stockpot on the stove top and set the burner to high. Bring water to a boil.

      Add the sweet corn to the water and cook for five to seven minutes.

      Remove as much sweet corn as you wish to serve immediately.

      Reduce the heat to low and leave any sweet corn that you are not serving immediately in the sugar and vinegar water. The corn will stay warm and delicious until you are ready to serve it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never add salt to the water in which you boil the corn. Salt will toughen the sweet corn.
