How to Make a Collage With Scrap Paper
A collage is an open-ended artistic activity that allows creativity to take center stage. Using scrap paper makes it an inexpensive craft. You likely have all of the necessary supplies on hand, making it an ideal rainy-day activity. Both kids and adults enjoy constructing abstract masterpieces using glue and paper. The resulting custom artwork adds color and decorations to the room.

Choose a base for the collage. An artist's canvas is a sturdy base that allows you to hang your collage easily. Poster board, cardboard or other stiff papers also work well.

Organize the scraps of paper by size, color, pattern or another defining characteristic. This helps to locate pieces as you create your collage.

Decide if you want any other embellishments on your collage. This might include photographs, newspaper clippings, string, ribbon, fabric and recyclable items.

Choose your method of adhering the items to the collage base. Regular school glue works well for paper. You also can use decoupage medium such as Mod Podge that acts as both a glue and sealant. Spread it underneath and on top of the paper scraps to hold them in place.

Do a dry fit of the scraps to get an idea of how you want your collage to look. Cut or tear the pieces of paper to fit the area and to create the desired shapes.

Glue or decoupage the paper scraps to the collage base. Have fun with this part, letting your creativity guide you. There is no right or wrong way to create a collage. Create a collection of colors and shapes that are visually pleasing to you.
