Unravel the nylon rope and determine how much you need for your task. Mark the spot where you want to cut it with a marker.

3
Cut on the line with your knife using a back and forth sawing motion. Cut away from your body to avoid injury, should the knife slip off of the rope. Continue cutting until you are all the way through the rope.

Set the knife aside in a safe spot and grab a lighter or other source of fire. Hold the rope against the flame until it begins to melt and fuse together. Once the tip of the rope is completely melted and fused, set it aside and let it cool for 10 minutes. Do not let anything touch the tip of the rope while it is cooling down.

Tips & Warnings
You can also use a hot knife to cut the rope. To do this, hold the knife over a flame for a minute and cut the rope while it is still hot. As the hot knife passes through the rope, it will melt the edges.
The nylon rope may drip when it is held against the flame, so make sure all of your body parts are above or to the side of the flame and rope.
