It may seem next to impossible to find time to relieve stress at work, but a few well-spent minutes can dramatically increase your productivity, enjoyment and health.

From Quick Guide: Work Better, Work Smarter
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Take a few deep breaths, allowing your rib cage and belly to expand as you inhale. Exhale slowly.

  2. Step 2

Seek a change in venue. Getting away from your work station, even for a walk to the water cooler, can help you collect your thoughts and refocus on the task at hand.

  3. Step 3

Laugh! Read one of your favorite jokes or simply laugh aloud.

  4. Step 4

Play with a stress-relieving toy or game like a mini-basketball hoop, dart board, foam stress ball or punching bag.

  5. Step 5

Close your eyes and listen to soothing music.

  6. Step 6

Visualize yourself relaxing at your favorite vacation spot or completing the big presentation with ease.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add helpful reminders to your screen saver, such as, "Take a deep breath," or add a phrase or joke that makes you laugh.
  • Use good judgment and know what is appropriate for your workplace.

on 11/22/2008 Good tips. Stress can really sap the joy out of life, not just work. Imagery meditation is also a very effective stress relief technique http://www.tranquilityisyours.com.

on 9/12/2007 I am sorry for submitting that twice but do you see the questions that I posted here, why don't you get the APA or anyone else to give you exact answers to them and then cite the sources and this must not be just research or theories, but exact valid and reliable scientific facts other wise they are meaningless and as the editor of this site you should care about stuff like this, do you, I hope so.

on 9/12/2007 Since you are the editor of this site why don't you get the specific answers to these questions and cite your sources:

1. Evidence That Clearly Establishes the validity of "schizophrenia", "depression", or any other "major mental Illnesses" as a biological brain disease.

2. Evidence For A Physical Diagnostic Exam such as a scan or test of the brain, blood, urine, genes, etc that can reliably distinguish individuals with these diagnoses (prior to treatment with psychiatric drugs), from individuals without these diagnoses.

3. Evidence For a Base-line Standard of a chemically balanced "normal" personality, against which a chemical "imbalance" can be measured and corrected by pharmaceutical means.

4. Evidence Any Psychotropic Drug can correct a "chemical imbalance" attributed to a psychiatric diagnoses, and is any more than a non-specific alterer of physiology
