How to Change the Line Spacing in an Existing Word Document
When writing a document in Word, you may type continuously with no spaces in between sentences, with the intention of changing your document's sentences to have a space between them later, or vice versa. You may also need to change a document that has been saved with sentences which are not spaced as you want them. If this is the case for you, and you use Microsoft Office Word 2007, you will find that you can adjust the line spacing by following a few simple steps.
Instructions
-
Changing a Whole Document's Spacing
-
1
At the top of the Word document's window, you will see tabs listed horizontally. Stay on the first tab, "Home" and find the option called "Styles" and click on "Change Styles."
-
2
Set your mouse at "Style Set," which will show you a preview of each spacing style available to you. The styles include the standard Word 2007 spacing (1.15) as well as a style called "Manuscript" which double-spaces your document.
-
-
3
Pick a style you prefer, and click on its name. This should change the entire document to the spacing you want.

Highlight the sections of your document whose spacing you want to change.
-
5
In the "Paragraph" option under the "Home" tab, click the "Line Spacing" button, which has two arrows; one heading upwards and the other down, and four lines to the right of this.
-
6
Click on the spacing you would like to change in the selection portion of your document. If you want to double-space the selection, choose "2.0." Select "1.0" if you want to single-space the selection. If you want to use Word 2007's standard style, click on "1.15."
