Instructions

    • 1

Sand wood kitchen cabinets that are unsanded to prepare the wood for the stain and finish. Use 120-grit sandpaper first, to sand off any roughened edges, and 220-grit second, to smooth the wood to a velvety finish.

    • 2

Use a paintbrush or clean cloth to apply a coat of wood conditioner to the cabinets. This seals the wood, and gives the stain a foundation.

    • 3

Stain the wood with a clean cloth. Dip the cloth into the stain of your choice (they come in any number of colors and finishes), and move it in a circular motion over the surface of the wood cabinets.

    • 4

Finish cabinets with a finish that compliments the stain (if your stain is oil-based, use a finish that is oil-based as well). Apply the finish with a paintbrush or clean cloth. This seals off the wood and provides protection against moisture and dirt.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cover the floor and countertop with plastic to protect it during the staining process.

  • Stain can also stain clothing and skin. Always handle it with caution. Do not inhale it directly.
